8-Week Portrait Painting Class
Paint a portrait from beginning to end. Through weekly student critiques, demonstrations, and discussion, observe and participate in the creative process as I teach how to paint in my style and encourage students to apply my technique and methods to their painting. Through the course of the 8 weeks, I along with the students will take a painting from beginning to end. Working from photos I provide, we will start with large simplified shapes and move the paint around on the canvas to sculp the light. We then build up mass and focus on structure by making our shapes of light continuously smaller and more detailed. We will paint skin tones with less color mixing and more layers to produce vibrant and unique results. Backgrounds and ways to bring a painting together and feel unified will be addressed.

In this 5-day workshop, Seth will provide a unique learning opportunity by painting from live models during the morning sessions and painting from reference photos during the afternoon. He will share his techniques for painting from live vs a photo reference. This workshop will use a two models and variety of reference photos.
